Add Subtitles to Video

You can add subtitles to your video in three ways:

1. Use our auto-caption tool. Just click ‘Subtitles’ after you open your video and hit the ‘Auto-Subtitle’ button.
2. Upload a subtitle file, such as an SRT or VTT file. Click ‘Subtitles,’ then ‘Upload Subtitle File.’
3. Type them manually (the old-school method).

VEED’s auto subtitle generator is free to try on a short clip. The free version lets you test the tool before upgrading to a paid plan for regular subtitling needs. A paid plan also unlocks more AI tools, like voice translation, to enhance your videos.

While often used interchangeably, there is a technical difference:

• Subtitles show dialogue for viewers who can hear sounds.
• Captions include dialogue plus sound descriptions for deaf or hard-of-hearing audiences, and sound-off viewers on social media.

• Hardcoded subtitles (or “open captions”) are permanently visible on a video.
• Closed captions can be toggled on and off.

Add and edit subtitles online with VEED’s subtitle maker:

1. Click ‘Subtitles’ from the sidebar menu.
2. Once you’ve added the subtitles, you will see a list of text boxes containing your subtitles. Click each box to edit spellings or add words.
3. You can drag the ends of the subtitle blocks on the timeline to adjust subtitle timings.

Easily sync subtitles by dragging the subtitle blocks on the timeline. For precise adjustments:

• Go to 'Subtitles' > 'Options' and use 'Shift Subtitle Timing.'
• Enter a negative number to shift subtitles forward (e.g., -0.5), or a positive number to shift them backward. You can set your subtitle delay to the nearest tenth of a second

Once you have added your subtitles, click on ‘Translate.’ Then, choose the language you want to translate into automatically. You can translate your subtitles into over 125 different languages.
