How to Record a Call as a Host or a Participant on Google Meet
You can record Google Meet videos on your desktop (both Mac and Windows) if you’re the meeting host, co-host, or a participant with recording permissions. This includes people within the same organization as the meeting organizer or those who have been granted recording access by the Google Workspace account administrator.
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to record Google Meet calls on desktop:
Step 1: Join the meeting.
Step 2: At the bottom right, click activities, and then tap on the Recording option.
Step 3: Click Start recording. At this point, you can also choose to record the transcript of your call by checking the Also start a transcript option.
Step 4: In the pop-up window that opens, click Start.
Step 5: Once the recording begins, all the meeting participants will be notified. Keep in mind that Google has an eight-hour recording limit, and once reached, the meeting will automatically stop recording.
Step 6: To stop a recording, click the red recording icon in the top-left corner of the screen, and then click on Stop recording.
Google stops recording automatically when everyone leaves the meeting, but we recommend you hit Stop recording for better control and to ensure your recording is promptly saved. The meeting host will receive the recording in their inbox once it’s done processing. They can also find the recording files in their Google Drive (My Drive) in a folder called Meet recordings.

If a meeting organizer is unable to join the call, the rest of the participants will not be able to make a Google Meet recording. If it’s an important video meeting that you want to record, consider using a free screen recording tool like VEED.
VEED is a browser-based screen recorder that supports both Mac and PC, making it easier for you to record on any device from anywhere at any time. As you capture your screen with VEED, it automatically saves your recordings in high quality (up to 1080p) with crisp, studio-quality audio.
VEED not only makes it simple to record high-quality audio and video, but is a powerful video editing software that lets you edit and share your recordings as well easily. It comes with some of the best AI features such as Magic Cut, automatic subtitles, AI avatars, and eye contact correction. All of these features combined with VEED’s ease of use makes video editing a breeze for everyone, regardless of their experience.
Note: We highly recommend you first ask the consent of all the participants before you start recording the call.
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to record on Google Meet using VEED:
Step 1: Sign up for VEED
Step 2: Once on your VEED dashboard, click on Record Video.
Step 3: On the next page, select Screen from the available options. Next, choose the tab of your meeting and click on Share.
(Optional): Mute/Unmute yourself on VEED. Keep in mind that even though you may be muted on the call itself, you may also want to mute yourself on VEED as it records your call.
Step 4: Click on Record to start recording your screen.
Step 5: When you want to stop recording, go to your VEED’s recording screen and click on Stop.
Step 6: Once the recording stops, the recorded video will appear on the screen. Here, you can generate subtitles automatically, change the layout, and customize your video’s background.
You can also use VEED’s AI features like remove background, eye contact correction, clean audio, or magic cut to quickly edit your video. Once you’re done making all the edits, click on Done and export your video.
